The 2024-25 edition of the Cotton Pest Management Guide (CPMG) features a new introduction, revised insect and herbicide tolerance sections, additional information on two diseases, two new tables, and a revised IRMS matched to plant growth stages with increased focus on mites.
The annual CMPG provides you with a comprehensive summary of the key cotton crop protection issues and is brought to you by the organisations responsible for cotton industry research, development and extension (RD&E): the Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) and CottonInfo.
You can access the online flipbook of the Guide here or download a copy for your own files here.
PLEASE NOTE: In line with the APVMA’s final regulatory decision for chlorpyrifos reconsideration (October 2024), the sale, possession, custody, use (or supply for use) of chlorpyrifos in cotton is not supported beyond 30 September 2025. You can find more information on the APVMA’s website at www.apvma.gov.au.
IMPORTANT: As at 16/10/24 (post CPMG production) the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has cancelled the registration and use of all products containing chlorthal dimethyl, also known as dacthal or DCPA. Chlorthal dimethyl is a herbicide used in vegetable crops, turf and cotton.
This is an immediate cancellation of the 12 products in Australia containing chlorthal dimethyl; no phase out period applies. Farmers and retailers may continue to the hold products containing this active until further notice but must not use them. The use of chlorthal dimethyl as an agricultural chemical product is now illegal.
The APVMA’s assessment found there is an immediate risk to human health due to direct exposure:
- during mixing
- loading and applying the chemical
- from residue remaining on treated crops and turf for up to 5 days following application.
Mention of the active occurs in 3 spots in the CPMG publication as outlined below:
- the IWM tactics diagram on p82
- plant back periods (Table 24 on p83), and
- herbicide resistance risk (Table 28 on p94).
