At this time of year, many would be considering managing vegetative growth of their cotton crop. Mepiquat chloride is a growth regulator used to manage excessive vegetative growth of cotton crops. However, there can be positive or negative effects associated with its use.
Chief Research Scientist and Digital Innovation Research Group Lead with CSIRO Agriculture and food, Dr Peter Thorburn is working on the CRDC-funded 'De-risking nitrogen (N) management in cotton farming systems' project.
Learn more about him and his previous work in looking at whether insurance can compensate the yield risk of lower nitrogen fertiliser applications in sugarcane.
Dr Graham Charles is a well-known and respected research scientist who has spent nearly 40 years working on weed management in cotton.
